FUNDRAISER FOR AUSTIN MAY

Posted March 24, 2014 By CobdenToday

Fundraiser_opengo  Opeongo High School  is hosting a fundraiser in support of one of their students, Austin May in Grade nine. Austin and his family moved to the Douglas area three years ago and during that time Austin became ill. He is a graduate of Cobden Public School.

It was determined he was in kidney failure. Austin has been moved to the top of the transplant list and awaits a phone call for a kidney. Due to the expenses of driving to Ottawa three times a week for dialysis, and when the call comes, one of his parents must move to Toronto for three months, while Austin recovers.

Doors open at 6pm so that people can view and bid on Silent Auction items that have been generously donated by businesses and community members. There are over 40 to see, and then a Talent show begins at 7pm with local musicians, step dancers, square dancers, and we have two six year old performers, as well as a small tribute to “Elvis”.

The Cosmo class will be doing mini manicures and paraffin wax
treatments for a small fee, and our anti-bullying group will be selling refreshments and baked goods. Admission fee is a donation at the door.

Come on out and help us support Austin in his quest for good health, and an evening of fun entertainment. Opeongo is focusing on Perseverance and Grit this year and Austin is a true example for us all of what perseverance and Grit is all about. See you there!

Come and play at the Cobden Legion CircleJam

Mad_guitarist

Cobden Legion is hosting an open Microphone on Wednesday nights from 5-7pm. Bring your instrument and your favourite tunes, throw away your stage jitters, and join us for a couple hours of circle jam. All styles welcome.

How does it work?

It’s a Kitchen Party. Each person does a song in turn (you are allowed to pass if you wish). Anyone who can join in, joins in. If you want others to do your song with you, bring them some music (score/chords/tabs/whatever). If you are nervous about playing with others, play quietly and add volume as your comfort level rises. All instruments welcome as long as the volume is fully controlled. We might pool our cash and order a pizza if we get hungry.

Starts Wednesday. March 5, 5pm.
